Each of the planets has their own individual length of time that they take to go around the Sun, and in reference to this, around the zodiac signs. From the outer planets – Jupiter outwards, we get to see these cycles taking long durations of time to complete the circuit.
At certain ages of our life we get to experience particular lessons or events. This is standard for everyone at the same years of life, e.g. we all go through the Saturn return transit at the age of 28 – 30, and again at 57 – 59. No one is exempt; we all have to run the gauntlet!
With the outer planets – Jupiter outwards, significant events and changes happen in our lives that refer to the energy of these planets as they move around the Sun, and around the zodiac. On a generalized reference they will issue the same lesson, but from where this planet is in your own birthchart will give further definition to your individual experience, e.g. the Saturn return I call “repotting the pot plant”– it’s a time to make a major decision that will re-structure your life; for some this be based upon their work, others about being a parent, someone else it will be financial.
With Jupiter having a 12 year cycle we see the 1/4 turns of this being significant times of growth, every 3 years we are ready for the next breath! At 12 years we are looking for new horizons. When we are the age of 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 …(multiples of 12) we have a burst of enthusiasm, we feel more adventurous and ready to take on new horizons. This is when Jupiter has returned to its original place in your birth chart – called a return.
Saturn has a 29 year cycle, this can be divided into 4x 7 year quarters. We get to review our lives at each 7 year turn, and at the 29 year point, (28 – 30yrs) we “repot the pot plant.” It’s a time for us to make a very serious decision about our future and to reshape our life accordingly. We repot again at 57 – 59 yrs and again 86 – 88yrs.
Chiron has a 50 year cycle, here we look at our health and well-being. At this time of life we need to assess our Self-development practices, clearing away old clutter and establishing new ways to better our life situations. It brings our health & well-being clearly into our focus, needing us to correct any areas of wastage, eliminating unhealthy habits, and becoming holistically healthy.
Uranus takes 84 years for the full cycle around the Sun, hence the 1/4 turns are at 21, 42 and 63. The mid-life crisis is with Uranus half way around the chart at 42- 44 yrs. This is when we are to look at where we have lost our inspiration and excitement for life, breaking away from confining or boring situations. At 63 we seek fresh air and new interests, energising ourselves with freedom. We will take up activities that bring a burst of youthfulness to our day – holiday more, increased exercise, daring experiences.
Neptune takes 165 years to do the journey around the Sun. It gives us a 1/4 turn at around 45+. This inspires us to deepen our spiritual journey, we get to recognize the depth of our intuition and become more attentive to listening to the guidance from within. At 80+ we want to be in another dimension—looking at life from a more psychic basis. We get to see into the realms of spirit more easily – unfortunately this is often classified as being senile!
Pluto takes 240 years to go around the Sun. The most significant point for us is the Pluto 1/4 turn in the mid-30’s, around 35 – 39. Here we get to face our greatest fears, taking us through a metamorphosis, like shedding a skin we release old identities to become more aligned with our inner strength.
The age that you are will indicate what planetary cycle you are currently going through? You may be in between 2 cycles – having just finished one and getting ready to go into the next one.
What age are you – what planetary cycle are you in now?
